19th c. English

  Mid-late19th century, 7/8 size round back, 42" S.L.  No label, but attributed to John Smith.  In very good condition with new neck reset, f/b and bridge.   SERIOUS orchestra bass - thick, deep, powerful, quick and mature  sound.  Superb audition bass  - extremely articulate, and includes  fingered "C" extension w/ four gates.  Also great jazz bass a la Charlie Haden.  Shoulders are big, best for tall person.  Priced well below similar quality basses. 19th c. French - Jacquet

  Mid 19th century large 3/4 Mirecourt flat  back, in very good condition.  41 3/8" S.L.  New bridge, new premium F/B, and replaced bass bar.  Solid  instrument with old cracks well repaired.  Good volume, gorgeous tone and, it plays itself!  Currently being shown at O'hara Fine Instruments in Brewster, NY.  Please contact us or them for more info.

19th c. French

Late 19th c. 7/8  size French (likely JTL) flat back in excellent condition.  Remarkably easy to play for a large bass, S. L. is 41 1/4".  Loud, even and projecting sound, you can really dig in and the sound keeps coming!

19th c. French-JTL

Late 19th c. 7/8  size French branded JTL.  Loud, powerful, clear, open and even with amazing sustain - very expressive.  42" S. L., easy  to get around on for large bass.  Excellent condition - just had complete restoration  by renowned Italian bass luthier Sergio Scaramelli. Priced to sell, please call.

1930s German

Early-mid 20th cent. 3/4 round back in very  good condition.  Has fingered "C" extension, Sloan tuners and recent  bass bar.  Neck and scroll not original.  42" S.L., 'D' neck.  Very good  sounding bass - even, open, complex and singing upper register.  Very easy to play.

German - Morelli

Pre WWll large 3/4 German round back bass.  String length is 42".  Loud, deep, powerful bass.   This bass is in amazing condition for an instrument of this age - there are no cracks anywhere.  Varnish has been tampered with, reflected in price.  $7000

Chinese

Preowned, preloved large 3/4 Chinese round back bass in very good condition.  String length is currently  41 1/2" with adjustments to nut and bridge.  Loud, powerful bass fitted  with Yamahiko pickup.  Easy playing bass, ready to go and needs nothing.     NOTE:  Marvin wire tailpiece has been replaced with original  ebony tailpiece.   $5000 

American - Kay

Kay C-1 in very good condition.  This classic American laminated bass from c. 1955 has all the qualities Kays are known for - loud, punchy and deep.  41 1/2" S. L., original rosewood f/b has a lot left on it, original Kay endpin.  No neck breaks, just some minor delaminations on back left.  $2,600

Chinese

New 3/4 Chinese round back hybrid bass labeled Mathias Thoma.  Top is carved spruce, sides and back moderately flamed laminated maple.  String length is  41 1/2".  Very attractive, good sounding, easy playing and sturdy instrument.  We've sold many of these, all with great results.

Eastern European

 Fully carved 3/4 flat back bass labeled Andreas Zeller 1982, imported by well known NYC bass shop.  String length is  40 1/2".  Very easy to play, excellent value for a solid wood bass.
